While Google Voice have long fought with Apple/AT&T over them rejecting their iPhone app, so they circumvented the ridiculous rules and produced a web app which provides immense functionality using HTML5, including a keypad, texting capabilities and access to your contacts

Dropping Vonage In Favour Of Google Voice
Living in the US with family in the UK, I’ve had Vonage for a few years to make free calls back home. But now Google Voice is changing the game, by offering even cheaper international rates, not to mention that there is no monthly fee, as there is with Vonage.
