Are you Miss Daisy or that crazed lunatic?

I’ve been observing other drivers for quite some time now, and even recently I’ve been inspecting my own driving as well as my habits and attitudes and questioning why I do what I do (Question Everything has kind of become my life motto).

In this process I came to realise that it does not matter who you are, or what your driving style is, or how much of an agressive driver you are, you view everyone else on the road in one of three ways:

1. This is the least common view, but it is of those driving at the same speed as you, give or take about 1mph. They drive in the same fashion as you and extend (or withold) the same courtesies to other drivers as you. You call these “Good Drivers“.

2. Anyone who drives more than 1mph slower than you, or who “dilly-dallies” on the roads, or is too generous to other drivers is “Driving Miss Daisy“. Other less family-friendly terms exist, but chances are, you already know them, because you utter them daily.

3. Lastly, anyone who drives more than 1mph faster than you, brakes hard (and accelerates hard) is hell-bent on getting themself killed and taking the rest of the world with them. These are the “Crazed Lunatics” and are the most common kind of driver on the roads in your eyes.

If only everyone was a perfect driver like you, the world would be a better place…
